The issue with the pellet stove persisted, it shutting off after running a few hours. The last time, we hadn’t quite gone to bed yet. One of the other issues is the damper knob opens itself wide after a certain point, so unless it’s closed or barely open, in a few minutes it’s full open, the fire is raging and it’s not pumping out as much heat. Closed, if you turn it up a little higher, it shuts off.
So this is what we were playing with last night, and then it went into shutdown mode and we could not get it restarted. you can;t hit reset more than three times. The error code wasn’t even listed in the manual, and all the advice to “call your dealer” was moot. Not only was it midnight, we bought it from a chain hardware store. Nobody to call.
By 2am it was not turning on at all, so we checked on the electric heaters, grabbed a few more blankets and headed to bed.
Ron was up again by 7, calling in a vacation day to work, and headed out to the hardware store. We had purchased a heavy-duty construction heater for the basement and now have to wire a plug for it to fit in. He also grabbed a couple more heaters. I think he’s made something like ten phone calls already as well.
Before you get too wrried, we are actually not all that cold. We have done things like this before, in our first house with the cranky wood stove and the unfinished rooms. So in comparison to that, we are doing quite well, actually. It was -33 C at 7:30am, and our water isn’t frozen. We’ve managed to keep the house at least 10 C, and in some parts up to 13 C, at least where I have a thermometer to check.
We’re finding thing to cook in or on the oven, and everyone is bundled up warm. I would run the dryer, but it’s still broken and in fact unrepairable. If it gets really bad, we can always go to my aunt’s.
Meanwhile, there are people on the other side of NB and in Quebec frantically trying to get us a part ASAP.
